Happy New Year and Roll Call! (URGENT!)
URGENT! All students reading this need to get started! Please ensure that you have commented as required before the first day of school!
Welcome to 2013, students of Melba Secondary College! I hope you have had a wonderful and restful holiday, because it is that time again – time to start school!
It’s a new year, and a new school for all of us. Some of you are already familiar with the senior campus; some of you are new – but all of us have a lot to get done this year.
Perhaps you are studying Physics or Mathematical Methods or Psychology with me (or even more than one; if so, you obviously have some bad karma to work off…), but regardless of subject, we have to get started.
This is the first blog post of the year – there will be many more, and this blog is a critical part of your learning experience this year. Anything you find on this blog is assessable, and your participation on this blog throughout the year is part of how I assess you.
So the very first thing you need to do is look on the right hand side of the main page of the blog, about halfway down and you will find the Email Subscription section – there is a button which says “sign me up” – you should do this – and pick an email address that you actually use! This will save you a lot of time.
Secondly, Everyone in any of my 2013 classes must post a comment to this blog post as soon as you finish reading it – a simple introduction – your name, the subject(s) you are studying with me, and one of the following – a new year’s resolution you have made for 2013, your favourite lolcat or a link to some other internet weirdness (and – keep it clean, folks!)
Thirdly, I always like mini tests, so let’s start with one right now. Antonyms are the opposite to a word; e.g. short is the antonym of tall. It is known that many people aren’t particularly good with coming up with opposites, so some practice will help you improve your mental agility. Get a pencil and write the antonyms of these words:
1) Always
2) Coming
3) From
4) Take
5) Me
6) Down
Finished? Good. Look over your list. Notice anything? That’s right. You were just rickroll’d by your teacher, before the first class! It’s going to be a good year…
See you in class!

Hi Darcy,
Ah, the old invisible driver prank. I created a Halloween costume like that once. A small LCD screen on the chest, and a digital camera on the back. A shirt with a bloody hole in it, and looks like a gaping wound all the way through – a bit of gore makeup, a lurching gait, and hollow groan, and you have one scary zombie. Definitely gets the freak out factor!

Hi my name is Trent Purcell, I am in your year 12 class this year, here’s a link to a funny video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wT7zM8XgXQ

Hi Trent,
You really are looking for trouble, aren’t you? The Head of Senior School is female, as are both of the year 11 coords. I hope you can run fast!
February 4, 2013 at 4:38 PM
I say I could run pretty fast but I could probably out drive them. But in all seriousness I wasn’t having a crack at women drivers in general just those terrible ones in the video.

Hi Connor,
Another two-for-one deal, huh? Are you a masochist, or am I?
I like your video, but it reminds me of a terrible show that my young son loves: pixelface.

February 3, 2013 at 7:13 PM
Hi Hannah,
Good to have you in class; that’s a commendable goal. Do you have a make & model in mind yet, or are four wheels and an engine more important?
January 31, 2013 at 3:16 PM

February 3, 2013 at 7:12 PM

Coke & Mentos work best with U.S coke and mentos – not so well with the Australian brands.

Two for the price of one – either that or you were a very bad last year, and santa left you a lump of coal. If you like the scale of the universe, you’ll like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkxieS-6WuA

Good day, sir. I am Scott Shepherd and I am in your year 11 Psychics class and hopefully soon your year 11 Maths Methods class as I think it’d be easier keeping track of my classes if I had the same teacher.
Fairly funny

While we may be studying a futuristic science, no crystal balls are involved!

Hi Ashleigh,
Weird foods are weird. I’ve eaten (amongst many others) fruit bat, snake and badger. Good, great and horrible respectively.

Hi, my name is Sam Flynn. I have year 11 methods and physics with you. The following video is funny because the man who is making it doesn’t anticipate what is going to happens, and suffers the consequences.

Keeping you disappointment in check when frustrated is something that this dog could teach everyone.

Very interesting. Strange perspective effects – sort of like gravitational lensing.
February 5, 2013 at 7:50 PM
Hi, this is Sam again, here is the link
February 5, 2013 at 9:08 PM
Hmmm… Interesting. I still think if you’ve got enough voltage for a Gauss gun, you’re probably better off building a plasma discharge ion taser.
